“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
– Edith Lovejoy Pierce
No matter how I am feeling at the end of December, whether it be festive and cheerful or exhausted and uninspired, I always manage some optimism for the new year. Right now I am exhausted AND inspired. I am definitely looking forward to good things and great books to come in 2025!
I still make New Year’s resolutions. I am always over-ambitious and never achieve them all. I never learn my lesson! But more often than not, setting goals for the year ahead does help me to at least make some progress in the areas I want to focus on.
The idea of Intentions is more popular these days than resolution. It is a better choice of words, in my opinion. It reminds me that making progress is better than focusing on the impossible ideal of perfection.
I resolved in 2024 to start this blog. It presented lots of challenges, like learning how to set up a website. Given my mediocre level of tech proficiency, I consider that an accomplishment! And it had been more than two decades since I wrote much more than business emails and Christmas cards. The actual blogging part of running a blog needs some work.
So improving the quality of this blog will be one of my key intentions for 2025, as well as my favorite.
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
– C.S. Lewis
2025 Intentions for Sage & Whimsy Book Club
- This year, I will practice consistency. I intend to post weekly, on Sundays. Over time, I hope to improve the quality of my posts so they are interesting to readers looking for their next literary fix.
- At least one post each month will be a SAGE post, and one will be a WHIMSY post. Mixing up works of fiction and nonfiction keeps reading interesting for me.
- I will focus on books I read or listened to that I enjoyed. I really have no interest in finishing or writing about books I don’t like too much. I’m also not interested in criticizing authors’ work just because it is not my cup of tea. So if I don’t want to recommend it, I would rather not mention it at all.
- I will improve the quality of this website. I like reading visually appealing blogs that are easy to navigate. Blog posts will remain the most important aspect of this site, but I will dedicate some time to improving its aesthetics as well.
